Greek Yogurt To Treat Yeast Infection

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
What kind of yogurt works for yeast infections?
I know you have to have plain yogurt in order to help/treat yeast infections. So i got DANNON All natual plain nonfat yogurt but does it have that bacteria or whatever needed to treat a yeast infection in it? Thanks :)
I already got monistat 1 and it didnt work so im taking monistat 7 and went to the doctor and she gave me pills. i just wanted yogurt to make it faster and get rid of it completely

    • ANSWER:
You can tell if it has cultures in it by reading the side where it should say "live and active cultures."

You can eat the Dannon yogurt. But it's best to have plain yogurt. I prefer Greek yogurt because it's not as bitter. You can sweeten it a little if you wish. The reason for this is because a lot of the Yoplait/Dannon yogurts have sugar in them, and sugar will make a yeast infection worse. Also, you can use yogurt topically, but you do not want to be using sugary yogurt--ALWAYS use plain yogurt if you are going to use it this way.

You can also try this stuff called kefir. It's actually better in that department because it's packed with probiotics. You can get it plain, but I prefer the flavored ones. It's like drinking a yogurt smoothie. If you live in the US it can be hard to find, but it's called Lifeway Kefir and they often sell it in the dairy aisle. Hell, if you decide you don't like drinking the stuff, you can blend it with some fruit and put it in the freezer for a probiotic snack.

  2. QUESTION:
How do I treat a yeast infection?
I am 14 years old and on birth control to help with a heavy period. i have already gotten one yeast infection about 3 months ago while i wasn't swimming yet. i am on the high school swim team and swim about 3 hours a day. i was wondering how i can treat this yeast infection while still swimming that much per day. the only day i have off is Sunday! please help!

my mom knows about the yeast infection but i just want more help on how to treat it this time! thankss!

    • ANSWER:
Here are some yeast infection home remedies that have worked for my friend and i, here is how to treat it without mediation although brith control should also control the amount of yeast so maye speak to your regular or gyno doctor/nurse about this?

      Plain yogurt
The good bacteria in plain yogurt helps fight yeast and yogurt can be used both internally and externally. BUT, be sure you buy plain, unsweetened yogurt. Since sugar feeds yeast, this is a crucial point. You can also make your own, using a yogurt starter. I have done this myself and it is simple and the results are quite good. The advantage is that you can use other types of milk, such as soy or almond. While I made mine directly on the stovetop, you can also purchase a yogurt maker, if you want to take the thinking out of the process. Whether purchased or homemade, yogurt is a great thing to eat before meals because it provides "good bacteria" for your stomach to aid in digestion.
For a topical treatment, you can also dip a tampon in plain yogurt and insert it into your vagina or simply rub some on the outside. I have found, however, that leaving it on for a prolonged period tends to have the opposite effect. It seems that once it has done its job, it is best to wipe it off or you will feel itchier due to the moisture.

      Garlic
Garlic is a big enemy of yeast! This is one of the most effective home remedies I have found for instant relief. Inserting one garlic tab (such as Shaklee's Garlic Tabs) or a garlic clove into the vagina every few hours or as needed provides soothing relief. If you use garlic tabs, be sure the ingredients are natural and pure. I highly recommend the Shaklee garlic tabs. They are what I have always used with great results.
Of course, garlic can be taken internally, as well. Again, the Shaklee garlic tabs work great. I have also used Kyolic garlic tabs and liquid in the past with good results. Or, if you don't mind the smell, you can press a whole garlic clove and drink it down quickly with water. I have found this to be very effective. Do it as often as necessary.
Garlic is one of nature's amazing "drugs" that has a number of other health benefits, including lowering blood pressure and reducing bad cholesterol. It is a natural antibiotic. In fact, my Greek father-in-law eats raw garlic everyday and, in his mid-sixties, is very rarely sick.

      Water
In my opinion, this is one of the world's most powerful, secret remedies for any illness! I strongly believe that if we all drank the amount of water our bodies need, we would see a great reduction in all types of sicknesses.
Most doctors say that we should drink at least eight 8-oz. glasses of water daily, but many people need even more than that. I have found that simply drinking enough water greatly reduces my likelihood for getting a yeast infection. Because I am drinking more water, and subsequently urinating more frequently, my body is able to flush out the sugars that feed the yeast.
Be sure to drink water that is pure and free from toxins. It is best to purchase some type of water filtration system, such as one made by Shaklee. Other brands that are good are the Brita and PUR brands. Be sure that regardless of what system you purchase, you do your research first to be sure that it will be effective in its performance.
If you do only one thing, drink more water. It's easy, accessable, natural, and has no side effects!
See our article on detoxing your body with a water detox.

      Oil of Oregano
This is an amazing herb! It is very potent against yeast. Take it internally daily, according to directions. Be sure, also, that the type of oil you choose has a high carvacrol content, as this is the active ingredient. I recommend Oreganol Super Strength P73.
      Beneficial bacteria supplement
A healthy body contains trillions of microoragnisms, most of which reside in the colon. Their main function is to provide balance for less-desirable organisms (such as yeast). I use Shaklee Optiflora to help maintain these probiotics and prebiotics in my intestines. I have used other products in the past, but have not found that their level of quality matched this product's. Other products can only gaurantee a certain amount of organisms at manufacture. However, Shaklee gaurantees that the bacteria will be alive when you ingest it and be delivered to the intestines. So, at this point, I can only suggest their product.

      Hope this helped<3

  3. QUESTION:
What are some natural remedies that will prevent yeast infections?
I get them all the time and don't like taking the diflucan pill from the doctor. I think taking drugs like that all the time is eventually going to have some bad side effects. I've heard yogurt is good for fighting yeast. Anyone know about anything else?

    • ANSWER:
If they keep recurring, there is a reason for it. It could very well be from taking the antibiotics, from an overgrowth of yeast (candidiasis) or even a yeast allergy.

A good way to treat it naturally is through your diet. You will need to cut out:
      - all refined and added sugars
      - preservatives and fillers
      - dairy (although plain/organic/greek style yogurt can help control some of the yeast, it is only minimally effective and the sugars and lactose will only aggravate it further - rendering it rather useless)
      - high sugar and dried fruits (no bananas, grapes, mangos, melons, etc. stick to apples, pears, peaches, citrus fruits, berries)
      - gluten
      - grains (gluten-free grains are okay in moderation after about a month. they are generally very high in carbs though, so be careful not to eat too much)
      - carbs in general (carbs are metabolized into sugar, which feeds the yeast causing it to grow and continue to spread the infection)
      - starchy foods and root vegetables (carb issue again)
      - peanuts and other mold-containing products
      - fermented foods (yeast is formed during the fermentation process. avoid all vinegars EXCEPT for apple cider vinegar which can help fight the yeast infection)
      - caffeine
      - condiments

So basically, stick to eating the following:
      - meat, poultry, fish
      - eggs
      - nuts other than peanuts
      - non-starchy vegetables
      - low-sugar fruits
      - beans and legumes (in moderation! again with the carbs)
      - apple cider vinegar, olive oil and other healthy oils
      - lots of water and herbal tea (green tea is great)

I know it sounds difficult and boring, but it will really help. Do this for AT LEAST 1 month before slowly easing into non-glutenous grains like quinoa and root vegetables, yogurt, etc. If you can, do it longer. It will help to cleanse your body of the yeast. When you first start, your symptoms get worse for the first couple of weeks. You will find you are craving carbs and sugar like crazy! This is because the yeast is being killed off and is basically 'starving' for food to keep itself alive. It causes your body to crave these things. It also releases toxins into your body once it is killed off, so you will need to wait for your body to clear it out to truly feel better. Do not give into temptation though, as it can really set you back in the healing process. This should take at least 3 weeks, though some people follow this for much longer (1 year or more).

Some additional things you can do to help it:
      - consume LOTS of fibre (through vegetables, and supplements - the best is course ground original texture metamucil. This will help clear the yeast from your system.)
      - eat at least 2 cloves worth of garlic each day (or take an allicin-rich garlic supplement)
      - add 1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar to an 8oz. glass of water 1-2x daily
      - in the morning 30mins before eating anything, stir together a drink combination of: 6oz. water, 1 tsp psyllium powder, 2 tsp colloydial oil; 1 tbsp benzonite clay. These are natural anti-fungals combined with fibre)
      - probiotic supplements
      - peppermint oil capsules combined with oregano oil
      - insert a tampon soaked in 2 cups water + 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
      - drink LOTS of water and herbal tea
(not all of these combined are necessary but even trying a few will certainly help)

I know you're probably thinking this all sounds really hokey. I did too the first time I heard it. I just want to tell you though that I have suffered from skin problems, digestive programs, inability to lose weight, undue fatigue, kidney infections, compromised liver function, depression and anxiety, yeast infections, ovarian cysts, and many other issues for the last several years. Some of those problems - my entire life. Then I discovered I had extreme yeast overgrowth and an allergy to yeast. Since trying this - I can't even describe the difference it has made in my life. I started losing weight (I was already eating healthy, whole foods, with strict calorie intake), my skin conditions have improved, my hair and nails are so much better, I haven't had a single kidney infection in the last year (was having them constantly - once or twice a month!), my digestive problems have nearly disappeared, my liver function is now normal, i haven't had a single yeast infection, only one ovarian cyst in the last year when before I always had multiple every few months, and an unbelievable increase in energy and overall happiness! So maybe some people think it's hokey - but really, what have you got to lose? It worked unbelievably well for me, and I am now finally discovering what it is like to be in good health. I have never felt this good in my entire life.

Anyways, I'll stop with my rant... good luck!!! I hope you feel better soon!!!!

  4. QUESTION:
Probiotics as vaginal suppositories for yeast?
I have a yeast infection that keeps coming and going (mostly staying) and most everything I've tried doesn't get rid of it. It isn't that uncomfortable for me unless I try to have sex with the husband. I am also nineteen weeks pregnant and trying to be careful about what I take. My ob recommended yeast suppositories, I am having trouble but found some acadopholis probiotics you take orally. Can I insert these vaginal as well?

    • ANSWER:
Yep. You can insert a regular probiotic capsule as a vaginal suppository and it will have the same impact as the more expensive ones designed for vaginal use.

The dominant healthy bacteria in the vaginal tract is L. caseii, so I'd suggest that you check your label and ensure that L. caseii is among the strains listed. And since you're treating a yeast infection, you'll also want to be sure that there's no FOS (fructo-oligosaccharides or "pre-biotics") in your capsules. Prebiotics are essentially sugary food for the bacteria... but it's also food for the yeast!

Last thing... you can manage symptoms of the yeast infection with cool Greek yogurt. Will soothe irritated tissues and deliver a small amount of probiotics, too.

AND, since your yeast infections are recurrent, it's not a bad idea for you to take the probiotic orally for a few months as well. (Will also help prevent/treat any GBS that may be present in the vaginal tract, which could prevent you needing antibiotics before you give birth.)

      Good luck!

  5. QUESTION:
Can a yeast infection go away on its own?
I've had yeast infection symptoms for about a month on and off. I KNOW it's not an std. What could be going on??

    • ANSWER:
They can but go away on their own but usually get worse and its dangerous not to treat them.

About yeast infections: Your vagina in its normal state has healthy bacteria and bad bacteria. As long it stays balanced like that you have no problems. The balance can become unbalanced causing the bad bacteria to overgrow and multiply causing you to have yeast infection symptoms, itching, lots of discharge that over time increases and becomes clumpy. Things that can cause the bad bacteria to multiply is scented tampons, soapy soaks, soap in the area, tight underwear and pantyhose, very hot baths, high hormone birth control, taking antibiotics, uncontrolled diabetes, douching, low immune system, lack of lubrication (like with sex).

For the itching buy Vagisil cream. The Vagisil tube will last for several yeast infections.

To treat the infection. You can buy products like Monistat or Vagistat etc. They sell different types, 1 day, 3 day, 7 day. That does not mean it cures in the number of day you pick, that is just how many days you treat it, it still has to run its course. Yeast infections take a week to cure.

There are other things you can take to speed along the process. You can drink 100% cranberry juice but it has to be that and no sugar or sweeteners. I dont like to do that so I buy Cranberry tabs at the grocery or pharmacy vitamin isle. One bottle can treat several yeast infections.

Also buy acidophilus lactobacillus (AL) in the grocery or pharmacy isle. Again one bottle can treat several yeast infections.

Buy plain yogurt, This is a must to get better. Greek is better. No sugar, no fruit no sweeteners. It tastes like crap but this will really make you better. It has acidophilus in it and kills yeast bacteria. Buy a big tub and eat 3 big spoon fulls 3 times a day.

Note yeast multiplies like crazy with sugar, so if you have a yeast infection avoid sugar drinks and foods.

I personally do not like to take Monistat type products. They are expensive. I keep at my home cranberry tabs, acidophilus lactobacillus and Vagisil. That way if I ever get a yeast infection I have all the stuff I need to treat it at home. Then all I have to do is buy plain yogurt. For a yeast infection I take 2 cranberry tabs a day, 2 acidophillus lactobacillus a day, eat the yogurt as I stated above and put Vagisil on the outside for itching

Also note before bed, soak in a cool bath so the area cools down, apply some Vagisil and you will sleep in peace no itching.

Whether you treat with Monistat or my way you should see and feel improvement on a daily basis because the bad yeast bacterial should be lessening so your symptoms should be lessening. Your discharge should be less, itching should be less and discharge should be less clumpy on a daily basis. You should keep treating yourself for a week even if you are feeling better to make sure to treat it completely. If not and its getting worse then it may not be a yeast infection. It could be bacterial vaginosis or if sexual active gonorrhea or chlamydia.

  6. QUESTION:
Where do I go for a vaginal infection?
Im 17 yrs old and I think I have an infection in my vagina but I want to get it checked out I'm not too sure where to go.
Do I go to my family doctor or do I call up a gynecologist? I've never been to the gyno before and I'm going without my parents cause I'm embarassed so do I bring insurance as well? Does the Gyno get covered by insurance in Canada?

    • ANSWER:
You do not have to go to a doctor to treat a vaginal infection. Unless you have serious pain or signs of infection like fever, a lump or something like that then you can treat it yourself and if it does not get better then as a last result you go to the doctor. I have never had an STD or anything like that but have had several yeast infections and have never went to the doctor for that. After treating for a yeast infection, then it could be a bacterial infection which then you do need to see a doctor because that requires a prescription. Also if you tried to treat it and it continues and you think it could be an STD then you need to see a doctor.

  8. QUESTION:
Natural ways to treat a yeast infection?
What is the Best Natural ways to treat a yeast infection...anybody, please help

    • ANSWER:
The best treatment is from the inside out. If you have yeast in your vagina, athlete's foot, fungus in your toenails - you've got it inside as well.

Vaginal yeast infection: a solution of vinegar and water as a douche once or twice a day will help restore a healthy pH that yeast has trouble thriving in.

Probiotics - take lots of them.

Coconut oil kills fungus and can be used internally and externally. Also a good oil for fat loss. You can cook with it and you can use it on your toilet paper as a personal wipe to soothe and suppress fungus.

Tea Tree oil is a good topical anti-fungal. Maybe add a drop to your douche or foot bath for external use.

There are products on the market that are specifically for killing yeast and building healthy internal flora. Visit a quality, independently owned health food store with informed employees who can help you select a product. Pau D'Arco is just one herb that is used for yeast infection.

Stop eating sugar in any form, including grain products - any pasta, any baked good, etc. Cutting out dairy can help, too, with the exception of yogurt with live cultures (probiotics). They have to be LIVE cultures, though, so make your own or make sure the label says LIVE cultures. And only get plain yogurt. Fage makes a delicious greek style plain yogurt that is delicious plain (and I'm not a big fan of plain yogurt!)

Read the book "Body Ecology Diet" by Donna Gates to learn how to eat to reverse/prevent candida and all the health problems that go along with it.

  9. QUESTION:
Could the living organisms that provide us with probiotics "want" to keep us healthy to ensure their survival?
Could it be possible that certain probiotic-producing organisms (kefir as an example) have a natural desire to keep us healthy, so that we continue to consume them and keep them "alive"?

    • ANSWER:
There is no real evidence of a symbiotic relationship, read on, it appears the host is the benefactor.

Probiotics are live microorganisms thought to be healthy for the host organism. According to the currently adopted definition by FAO/WHO, probiotics are: "Live microorganisms which when administered in adequate amounts confer a health benefit on the host". Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and bifidobacteria are the most common types of microbes used as probiotics; but certain yeasts and bacilli may also be helpful. Probiotics are commonly consumed as part of fermented foods with specially added active live cultures; such as in yogurt, soy yogurt, or as dietary supplements.

Etymologically, the term appears to be a composite of the Latin preposition pro ("for") and the Greek adjective (biotic), the latter deriving from the noun (bios, "life").

At the start of the 20th century, probiotics were thought to beneficially affect the host by improving its intestinal microbial balance, thus inhibiting pathogens and toxin producing bacteria. Today, specific health effects are being investigated and documented including alleviation of chronic intestinal inflammatory diseases, prevention and treatment of pathogen-induced diarrhea, urogenital infections, and atopic diseases

The term "probiotics" was first introduced in 1953 by Kollath (see Hamilton-Miller et al. 2003). Contrasting antibiotics, probiotics were defined as microbially derived factors that stimulate the growth of other microorganisms. In 1989 Roy Fuller suggested a definition of probiotics which has been widely used: "A live microbial feed supplement which beneficially affects the host animal by improving its intestinal microbial balance".[13] Fuller's definition emphasizes the requirement of viability for probiotics and introduces the aspect of a beneficial effect on the host.

In some specific situations (such as critically ill patients) they could be harmful. In a therapeutic clinical trial conducted by the Dutch Pancreatitis Study Group, the consumption of a mixture of six probiotic bacteria, increased the death rate of patients with predicted severe acute pancreatitis.[46]

In a clinical trial conducted at the University of Western Australia, aimed at showing the effectiveness of probiotics in reducing childhood allergies, Dr Susan Prescott and her colleagues gave 178 children either a probiotic or a placebo for the first six months of their life. Those given the good bacteria were more likely to develop a sensitivity to allergens.[47]

Some hospitals have reported treating lactobacillus septicaemia, which is a potentially fatal disease caused by the consumption of probiotics by people with lowered immune systems or who are already very ill.[47][48]

There is no published evidence that probiotic supplements are able to replace the body's natural flora when these have been killed off; indeed bacterial levels in feces disappear within days when supplementation ceases.[49]

Recent studies indicate that probiotic products such as yogurts could be a cause for obesity trends.[50] However, this is contested

You should keep treating yourself for a week even if you are feeling better to make sure to treat it completely. If not and its getting worse then it may not be a yeast infection. It could be bacterial vaginosis.

  11. QUESTION:
I think I have a yeast infection. I don't want to tell my parents because it will be awkward. ?
I don't know what to do, can someone please help me? It's bugging the crap out of me and I can't sleep at night.

    • ANSWER:

It could be bacterial vaginosis.

  12. QUESTION:
Is it true that plain yogurt can be used to treat bacterial infections in women?

    • ANSWER:
No. Plain yogurt (greek is best) can only be used to treat YEAST infections, because the bacterial content of yogurt is similar to the natural bacteria of the vagina, this helps get the yeast overgrowth under control.

If you try and treat a bacterial infection with yogurt, you'll add fuel to the fire. For bacterial infections, you need to see a doctor.

  13. QUESTION:
    Treating thrush while breastfeeding?
How did you treat thrush while breastfeeding? Did you take antibiotics or did you do it naturally? My son has a reoccurring yeast diaper rash for the past few months and I just go the same type of rash on my nipples. I know it is thrush and I have called both doctors I am waiting on a call back from my GP. I don't want to give my son antibiotics if I don't need to and I thought taking antibiotics causes yeast infections so how does that treat it?

    • ANSWER:
Antibiotics don't treat thrush; they cause it sometimes however. An antifungal like nystantin may be prescribed or diflucan. Thrush can be very stubborn and you need to be diligent. The most important thing is to get you and baby on a probiotic to establish the good bacteria that keeps the yeast in check. Culturelle makes both a kids' and an adult, although dr sears says you can just open an adult capsule and use the powder for baby.

Stop eating sugar and simple carbs like white bread - that will feed the yeast and make it worse. Eat lots of yogurt (check labels-a lot of yogurt is nothing but sugar. Try Fage or another plain Greek yogurt).

Spray your nipples with a solution of 1c water and 1tbsp white vinager after every feeding and let it air dry.

  14. QUESTION:
Is it okay that my yogurt has 6 grams of sugar if im trying to temporarly treat a yeast infection?
i have strep throat right now so i dont want to be on too much stuff but i have a really bad yeast infection which im temporarly treating with some old medication from my last one and its kinda working but i kno yogurt is good so i have plain greek yogurt with live cultures but has 6 grams of sugar and i know that its supposed to have 0 but i couldnt find any....will it do for now even with the sugar? cause i kno sugar is bad for a yeast infection.

    • ANSWER:
That yogurt is probably doing more harm than good. Live culture is good, but that sugar is bad.

There are chewable pills that have live bacteria in them. I use them myself, on occasion. Also, you can buy topical yeast cream over the counter now, and it works well.

  15. QUESTION:
    Yogurt Remedy for yeast infection?
Hello, so I've gotten an yeast infection. when I first took difflucan, it worked for about 2 weeks and my yeast infection came back. (difflucan only fixed the symptoms, not the root) ive done some research and decided to try eating yogurt + inserting yogurt in my vagina.

surprisingly, eating yogurt (at least half a cup a day, plain greek yogurt with active cultures) worked. Slowly, but it worked. Then I started inserting yogurt in my vagina and that helped the healing (killing yeast) process 3x faster. HOWEVER, I stopped inserting the yogurt in my vagina for ONE DAY, and the itchiness has gotten worse than the day before (the day I skipped the 'insert', my vagina was great, i only itched like 5 times throughout the day, but the next day it has gotten worse! . I kept eating yogurt still though, I just didn't insert it for one day.

My question is, if my symptoms get worse if i don't insert yogurt in my vagina regardless of me eating the yogurt itself, does this mean i'm supposed to insert the yogurt in my vagina for the rest of my life?? I mean for 5 days I've been inserting the yogurt in for Lord's sake! didn't the yeast die already? How come my body can't produce healthy bacteria on its own without me inserting the yogurt with me?? What is the root of this? Why does it need my help though?

    • ANSWER:
There isn't very good evidence that yogurt can prevent or treat yeast infections. Your body doesn't produce bacteria -- the bacteria live in your body as a habitat. The bacteria in yogurt are different from the bacteria that live in your body, and the bacteria in yogurt aren't able to colonize your vagina because it's not the right habitat. Simply, what happened is that the yeast were able to outcompete the bacteria that were in your vagina. To correct this, you need to kill off the yeast. If the yogurt isn't able to effect a cure, I would try something like Monistat or another over-the-counter topical medication. That will definitely kill off the yeast, and in doing so will allow the bacteria that already live in your body -- the good bacteria that are able to colonize your vagina -- to grow.

  16. QUESTION:
I CANNOT TAKE THESE YEAST INFECTIONS ANYMORE. PLEASE HELP...?
Okay So I will be 19 next week, and I got my first yeast infection in February. No big deal, first yeast infection. Doctor prescribed me diflucan and cream to put up there. Went away for a little while, came back, treated it again, then came back, and so on.

I just had my 4th yeast infection, and I about lost my mind-- I actually did.
I went to an amazing doctor in Salt Lake, and he prescribed me diflucan for seven weeks.

I have taken ALL of the measures to get rid of this such as:
    Cotton underwear only
    Candida diet
    No sugars
    Probiotics and greek yogurt everyday
    Yeastrol
    Supplements to fight candida
Putting yogurt on and in my vagina.

I am only nineteen and I feel doomed that I am going to have this forever, I have even contimplated commiting suicide because I want to be able to have a normal sex life and have kids.
By the way, i have only had one sex partner, and we ONLY have had sex with each other. He even got treated just in case.
    NO STD'S, DIABETES, OR ANYTHING.

This has completely taken over my life. Im constantly looking in a hand mirror examining my vagina, checking for yeast and anything abnormal, and it has become an obsession and a phobia. It has made my life miserable since February, and sometimes I wont even leave the house.

Please help, why is this so hard to get rid of? It's an infection for gosh sakes.
All i want is to be normal.

I don't use any soaps, just water, and I have tried so many different things, please do not suggest what i have already done.. :(

    • ANSWER:
YOu shouild never put yogurt into your vagina.
I want you to buy cheap thin toilet paper so you can feel if you are wiping poop into the area of your vagina.
The lining in the vagina is very sensitive and is thrown of feasily by say condom cream (like if you changed the brand) strong soaps or shampoos even.
A yeast infection will often clear with the end of your period because you have shed the lining in the vagina. So Why didn't yours? Give some thought to that and keep a watchful eye for what might be distubring the natural yeast in your body.
But for SURE NO MORE DOUCHES OR HOMEMADE REMEDIES stick ONLY to your dr perscribed medicine.!!!!! NO VASALINE NO EXOTIC SEX CREAM OR WARMING JELLIES AND USE NOTHING BUT A PROPER STORE BOUGHT CONDEM.
SMARTEN UP! And have more RESPECT FOR YOURSELF than this.

  17. QUESTION:
Repeated vaginal infections - please help!?
Since the end of May/beginning of June (2012) I have had repeated vaginal infections that occur a few days to a week before my period. This has happened every single month without fail. My birth control was changed from microgestin to gildress in June but I can't find anything online that suggests that has anything to do with it. My doctor has been treating me each month for bacterial vaginosis (though he has yet to actually do an exam). He has been giving me oral antibiotics of flagyl (clindamycin) ranging anywhere from 2x a day for 7 to 10 days. The antibiotics seem to make all my symptoms go away but then they all return in full force the next month.

    My symptoms are:
    - Heavier than normal discharge that appears clear but dries white (with a hint of yellow) and has no smell to it
    - Occasional but severe itching inside my vagina
    - Occasional pain during intercourse

I am sexually active but only have one partner. We do not use condoms because he has had a vasectomy and is sterile. However, we were using condoms when these infections first started. I eat lots of organic greek yogurt, take all sorts of vitamins and lactobilli, etc supplements (orally), wash with Dove hypoallergenic soap and washcloths, wash my clothes and bedding with nonscented and free of dyes detergent with no dryer sheets, use rePHresh pH balance every three days, refrain from using tampons during my period, wear cotton underwear and loose fitting clothes, let that area air-dry after a shower, sleep without underwear to allow air to get to that area, never douche or use feminine sprays or deodorants, and refrain from receiving oral sex.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong! My doctor and everything I have read online say that there is no real way of preventing BV and there is no sure cause of it. I am frustrated and looking for more answers because everything I have read seems not quite to fit. I feel like I have some symptoms of BV and some symptoms of a yeast infection. Before May I never had any problems - not even a yeast infection. I am making an appointment with another doctor but was hoping to get some insight before the appointment. I can't live like this. It is miserable!!!

    • ANSWER:
It is more like STDs than normal yeast infection. It might now be impotent against antibiotics. It can be a shot, or oral based on culture. You need to talk openly to your doctor, that he/she does culture from your discharge in the morning with urine test. It is serious, because it must be the right antibiotics only.

  18. QUESTION:
Yeast infection and/or UTI home remedies?
I won't be able to go to my doctor for two weeks, and I can't afford to go to a clinic where I currently am, so I've been looking online for information, and this is what I've began putting myself through.

I did the "spit test" for yeast infections (spit into water first thing in the morning, if it is white and there are web-like veins that spread out, you have a yeast infection) and that says I have a yeast infection, as does webmd and a few other sites based on my symptoms. BUT my lower back (under my ribs, kidney area) has been painful the past two evenings (and only in the evening) and my urine has been really odorous (even when its clear from all the water I'm drinking), so symptom checkers also point to UTIs. I don't have pain with urinating, any itchiness, burning, or swelling at all.

This morning I started downing water, I ate 1 cup of plain Greek yogurt, I ate a clove of garlic, I took 1000mg of vitamin C, I'm planning on starting Monistat3 tonight, I am forcing myself to consume pure cranberry juice (it is so tart it's painful), and I made my boyfriend go to his doctor to be checked for both UTI and yeast infections and get meds for himself (I'm blaming his beer for the yeast issue).

I do plan on visiting my doctor asap, but in the mean time, is there anything else I can add to my regimen to improve my chances of getting rid of the yeast and possibly UTI?

    • ANSWER:
Greek yogurt should be put on a tampon and inserted in to ur vagina for it to treat thrush... x

  19. QUESTION:
Trying to clear up a yeast infection the natural way?
    Here's my plan:
Tonight: Take a "light" tampon - soak in hydrogen peroxide. Wear for one hour. Next: take another tampon that has been in plain greek yogurt, wear for an hour w/ an icepack.
Tomorrow: Put honey down there for twenty minutes. Take a bath with apple cider vinegar. Dry off and apply ice. Then repeat hydrogen peroxide tampon and yogurt tampon.
Do you think my yeast infection can be cured from all that in only two nights? Please help me this is driving me INSANE.

    • ANSWER:
Hydrogen peroxide and vinegar won't help you, and yogurt probably won't help you either. Some of the bacteria used in yogurt seem to have antifungal properties, but they can't adhere to (and thereby colonize) the vaginal wall.

Putting honey into your vagina is a VERY BAD idea. Sugar feeds yeast.

Really, the best way to treat a yeast infection is with over-the-counter medications like Monistat. Don't worry about whether or not it's "natural." Natural doesn't always mean better, and the best things aren't always natural.

  20. QUESTION:
    yeast infection help please?
i have felt the urge to urinate alot in the past 5, 6 days.
but more and more it feels really burny and sore down below, red and itchs now and again.
feels like its on fire. i haven't had alot of discharge. mainly yellow, also white watery discharge
earlier strangely, also had pelvic pain earlier in the week. and cloudy urine. peeing doesnt hurt but i feel like it hurts the labia after its out, i also have strong urge to pee sometimes even tho i dont need to. is it a yeast infection? help?

    • ANSWER:
If you need to pee often and it does not feel like you ever finish and need to again, then it could be a urinary tract infection and that needs a doctor visit for a prescription.

  21. QUESTION:
This is ruining my life, and making me not want to live anymore, somebody please help.?
Okay So I am 18 years old, and I got my first yeast infection in February. I was givin a 7 day cream and diflucan, it went away for awhile, and then it came back, and i treated it with the diflucan and the cream again. About a month and a half later, I got another one, and I was at my witts end. I took monistat 7 this time, and it went away for about 2 months this time.
Well, my boyfriend and I broke up in July, and he is the only man I have ever had sex with, and I was the only girl. He is VERY clean, and I even made him take diflucan just in case.
Anyways, I got another one after I got off of my birth control, and I used the monistat 7 again, and it still didnt go away, so i tried tea tree oil douche and garlic, and i guess it went away..

Here is the problem: I am in CONSTANT fear of getting a yeast infection now. I have been on a diet for 2 months, and will not consume any carbs or sugar and am taking so many supplements to get rid of the candida including: probiotics, yeastrol, candida clear, garlic pills, cranberry juice, greek yogurt, water.
I am CONSTANTLY checking my vagina in a hand mirror at least 50 times a day checking to see if there is any yeast up there and sticking my finger up there. It's like my whole day is revolved around my vagina.
Last night was the first time I had sex in 2 months, and it was with my ex and we used a condom, I couldn't really get that wet but we had sex anyways because i wanted to make him happy.
Why couldnt i get wet? Was it because I was over thinking? Was it because something is wrong?

I came home bawling and was contemplating suicide because I just cannot seem to get my sex life how it used to be, and this fear of yeast infections is taking over my life.
I am making my 13th appointment with my gyno this week to see what is wrong..

Is it my mindset? What is it? This is taking over my life.

    By the way:
Been tested for all STD'S. Clean
    Wear cotton underwear
Dont wear any scented soaps or anything
    Am very clean

I'm sorry this was so long, but please bare with me, is this honestly just my mind set? Why is my whole life revolved around my vagina?
I would feel useless if i couldnt have sex, and wouldn't even want to live. I just want to be normal :(

Possible Yeast Infection, and ways to treat it?
I think I may have a possible yeast infection. It's extremely red and itchy down there, and has been going on like this for a few weeks now. Also, there's like, flakes which I think are there because it is dry, but I can't tell.
I prefer not to go to a doctor because it's awkward talking about this with anyone >_> What I started doing last night and will be doing is eating yogurt atleast twice a day. We have the greek vanilla flavored yogurt (only one my mother will get) that I have been eating. I heard avoiding fruits and high starch and sugar foods.. But what else can I do?
It's becoming extremely comfortable, and need a quick way to get rid of it.
When we get plain yogurt, I think I will try the tampon with the yogurt thing... But I need more ways I can try to do this by myself rather than get my mother/doctor involved.
    I'm shy. >_>;

    Thank you

    • ANSWER:
Yogurt will probably not help you at this point. It may help soothe the area, but eating yogurt is more of a preventative measure. You actually need to talk to your doctor for several reasons 1) if it's your first yeast infection it needs to actually be diagnosed, so its not recommended going to a drugstore and buying a product until you know. 2) It kind of doesn't sound like a yeast infection with the flaking.

If it is a yeast infection it will not go away with yogurt and avoiding sugars and starches - trust me - you will be miserable for months. It's nothing to be ashamed of, you just need to be treated. There are medicines that you can take that will make this go away in day.

    • ANSWER:
It could be just a yeast infection:

About yeast infections: Your vagina in its normal state has healthy bacteria and bad bacteria. As long it stays balanced like that you have no problems. The balance can become unbalanced causing the bad bacteria to overgrow and multiply causing you to have yeast infection symptoms, itching, lots of discharge that over time increases and becomes clumpy. 29. QUESTION:
Ladies help!! Yeast infection problems :( ?
Okay so I'm going to make this as short as possible! Please bear with me
I've been having frequent yeast infections since summer 2011 after I took antibiotics for a uti.
Long story short I have a bf now for over a yr
We're both std free the only thing I haven't or he hasn't been checked for is HIV ( don't know why )
    We're both 19
He's the first person I've engaged in unprotected sex with
He's had 2 others before me
When he was around 16 and 17 ish

Okay so my question might be a little confusing but it's because I'm extremely confused.
I know I shouldn't believe w. e I read on web md and freak myself out but it says if u have frequent yeast infections it either means HIV or diabetes. I know I don't have diabetes I get checked for it frequently cuz it runs in the family

My question is if not HIV then hy does it keep coming back?
Could it be that we're passing it back and forth since then?
I just recently treated my last one but I got another yesterday cuz I got antibiotics for a sinus infection
    Do antibiotics really cause them?
Could it be from frequent sex
I have anxiety and hypochondria and am stressed what seems like 24 7 idk if that could be a factor or not
Also I'm on birth control ( ortho tri clycen lo) also don't know if that contributes.

Or do you think I have HIV?
I know there's no way of knowing without a test but I just really need some insight
Could my immune system possibly just be shitty towards yeast?
I remember getting them at like age 13 way before I was sexually active

Sorry for the 21 questions and the book i just wrote I'mjust really confused. Thanks so much and god bless.

    • ANSWER:
You probably do not have HIV. I had recurrent yeast infections too, never figured out why, but it wasn't HIV because I got tested twice. My doc put me on a vaginal hormone that helped to make the inside of the vagina's pH and skin different, and they quit coming as often. Dunno if that would help you or not.
Antibiotics definitely cause yeast infections, some more than others and some people are more prone to them when taking antibiotics. I personally get them every single time I take them.
BC pills are also said to cause more yeast infections than normal, but not really sure why. It always says that on my pill packs when I get mine.
You've had them for this long, then I think it is probably something in your body, nothing to do with sex or meds. Try going to your gyno and seeing if she can give you a vaginal hormone, mine was called Vagifem. It worked for me. Also try not eating as much sweets as sugar feeds yeast, and try to eat greek yogurt more. I tried it and it helped a bit, it's supposed to balance out the pH but its not a for sure thing, I was just trying anything and everything to help out.
Good luck and quit freaking out girl, its not AIDS haha. I have a hypochondriac friend and she is just like you, I have to calm her down all the time cause I'm a nursing student, and she thinks I'm a genius doctor, so maybe this will help you too :)

  30. QUESTION:
Am I treating my yeast infection correctly?
I have had a yeast infection for about 2 days now...and I just started treating it today. I purchased AZO yeast probiotic tablets and vaginal discomfort cream and have been using both at the recommended dosages for the past 8 hours. I have also done a home-remedy apple cider vinegar/water douche. I am currently on my period, which complicates things a bit, but I've started using a tampon to keep the outer part of my vagina dry and clean. So far the symptoms have not really changed, but I wanted to know if these methods of treatment will be enough to fix it? I would like this over-with as soon as possible, I go back to work in 4 days.

    • ANSWER:
Gee, I'm not sure the douche was a great idea. I've heard that you can spread infection with douches. I usually use greek yogurt for yeast infections and it works well enough that you'd be ok in a couple of days. I put a bit of it on a tampon and insert it. The theory is that the bacteria in the yogurt attacks the yeast.

  31. QUESTION:
    I think i have a yeast infection?
Im 17 years old and I am sexually active (use condoms) this is the first time i ever experieced this ..after like 2 days of having sex my vagina is extremley itchy , was swollen and burns/hurts its been 3 days and im still going through this . Do i have a yeast infection? And can i go to the doctor without my mom ? Help what do i do .. I cant sleep with this

You do not need to go to the doctor for a yeast infection. Many women do and I have no idea why. Why do a pelvic exam if you dont need to.

For the itching buy Vagisil cream. They sell different types, regular, maximum etc. http://www.vagisil.com/vaginal-odor-anti… The Vagisil tube will last for several yeast infections.

You should keep treating yourself for a week even if you are feeling better to make sure to treat it completely. If not and its getting worse then it may not be a yeast infection. It could be bacterial vaginosis, STD or STI. Bacterial vaginosis is that the bacteria that is multiplying is not yeast but a different strain of bacteria and unfortunately with that you do need to see a doctor because you need a prescription because no over the counter medications will help that. Bacterial vaginosis cause is just random. There is no reason yout get it, you just can. If its not BV then it could be a STD or STI but you are only 13 and not sexual yet so that wont apply to you now. However, when you do become sexually active you can give your boyfriend a yeast infection and if he does not treat his (again no doctor needed) then he could give it back to you.

    Thank You. all answers appreciated.
I just went pee... and I was wrong. It hurts really bad when I pee. It stings):

    • ANSWER:
If you had a UTI in the past then the medicine had to have worked because an untreated UTI will lead to severe sickness even sepsis. If you had a UTI you would feel a great need to pee often but then when you go its barely enough and you feel you still need to go. It will burn but also have those symptoms too. If you have a yeast infection, the area is so raw down there that when you pee the pee touches the raw areas and it burns. Look up the symptoms of UTI and yeast infection on Mayo Clinic to see what matches what you have best. A UTI needs to be treated immediately. You can get that diagnosed at a walgreens take care clinic or like type clinic.

It probablyis your birth control causing your problems. You probably have a high estrogen type whichis throwing off the balance of vaginal flora (bacteria) in your vagina thus causing you to get yeast infections repeatedly. You need to tell your gyn to switch your pills.

  33. QUESTION:
Help! Picky Maltese puppy hardly eats ...?
We have a 10 week old Maltese puppy. She weighs 2 lb. 6 oz. She has been in our home for 1 week (only gained .3 oz. since she's been with us. She eats VERY little (less than 1/4 cup of food per day) and is incredibly picky. We've never had picky eater dogs before. The VET was even stumped as to what to get her to eat. Here's what she eats a very little bit of: Science Diet kibbles mixed with Eukanuba kibbles (keeping her on the Eukanuba for now, because that's what the breeder used). She'll like at a little bit of greek vanilla yogurt. The vet got her to eat some of the feline dental crunchy treats today (she loved them). She turns her nose away from all wet/canned food. She doesn't really like puppy treats either. She shows no interest in chicken. Normally I'm of the thought process that a dog will eat when they are hungry. Sadly because she is a tiny Maltese, not eating would put her at an extremely high risk for low blood sugar. Oh, I should mention that she does poop about 3 times per day and stools appear normal. She urinates frequently without issue. She drinks plenty of water. She also loves to chomp on grass, but the vet has said that is okay only in moderation.

    Here are the questions:
*What high quality kibble do you think I should try for our puppy?
*Any tricks to getting a picky eater to indulge a bit?
*Would cat food or cat treats be an option for adding to her current kibble? I would give her soley kitty food, but wondering if mixing the two might get her to eat more?

Open to all suggestions & REALLY appreciate your help.

    • ANSWER:
I have a 6 year old maltese that had since she was a puppy. she was a finicky eater at first, this bread is known for it. Every morning i would tap on her food bowl and show it to her when ever id pass and praise her if she came over to eat. Now she eats fine. Double check - but I think 1/4 c. is pretty average for a dog of her weight. I switched my maltes to Wellness brand after doing much research about a year ago. She was getting constant yeast infections in her ears and paws. Her energy level has increased so much. Find a food that is meat based and contains no dairy, corn or byproducts. Dogs natural digestive system isn't made to brake this down. Don't feed her anything but dry dog food. No scraps, and no wet food. Best of luck!

  34. QUESTION:
Do I have a yeast Infection or is it another infection?
I'm not sexually active and not on the pill
    I am 22

2 months ago I took some tablets to stop my period as I was going on holiday.

Since then my periods have been more heavy then usual.

My first period after taking the tablets was just heavy, but after my 2nd period, I have alot of discharge,

Sorry this may be tmi but it's where it's hanging there when I go to the toilet.

The other day So much discharge came out I though I was on my period untill I looked at my underwear.

The discharge has a very little bit of blood, not alot, but enough to see it there. I would say a small drop.

I finished my period a week and a half ago and the discharge started a week after the period finished.

I have itching maybe once every couple of days and it's very brief.

    There is a slight smell.

Any idea, If there is a professional or nurse that could answer, that would be great.

I am making a doctors apppointment on Monday.

    Thank you!

Usually if its a yeast infection you know it. Its super itchy, burning expecially when you urinate and then the discharge gets lumpy.

  35. QUESTION:
    Do i have a yeast infection ? Help ? !?
So 4 days ago in the morning My vagina was itching badly inside but it was'nt burning or stinging ,
so i went to my large mirror to see what was going on down there so i saw white inside my vagina ! It nearly scared the crud out of me ! It was'nt white discharge & it was'nt paper toilet ! at first i thought it was paper toilet & i tried taking it out but it was stuck to my vagina , it was'nt a gunk of white stuff it was just all over the opening of my vagina . I took it all out with a q-tip & inside my vagina was some white puss Idk what it was ! So i stuck the qtip in there & l took it all out . So i started washing my vagina 3 times a day to get all the bacteria out & no more of the white stuff has been growing but my vagina is still itching really bad & it's getting swollen & red ! It does'nt burn when i pee but it itches in the middle of the night alot ! It mostly itches alot inside !
& i dont want to tell my parents ! It's gonna be really embarassing ! Cause if i tell my parents they're gonna want to see ! & i'm gonna have to go to the doctor & it's gonna be more embarrasing .
    I'm 13 btw !

    • ANSWER:
Having a yeast infection is a health condition. Any female can get it, even children. It is not embarassing and you dont need to tell you dad if you mom is around. Your parents are the ones that take care of you and want the best for you so they need to know about it. They do not need to see it. They should trust what you are saying and at a certain age, parents dont need to see their children's private area. I am sure you mother knows all about yeast infections as she is female. Just tell you need to the things I mention below from the store. Your mom will know what you need as she is a female. You only need to go to the doctor if treatment for a yeast infection does not work, then it might be something else like bacteria vaginosis or an STD or STI if you are sexually active.

  36. QUESTION:
    Thick yogurt like yellow-ish discharge?
About 2 days ago I noticed thick yellowish discharge in my underwear. I could feel it coming out of me, there's so much. There's not much odor. It smells how my vagina normally smells. The opening of my vagina itches and sometimes my clitoris too. I also noticed I'm not as wet as I used to be. I haven't had sex since the end of December. & when I did have sex it was protected. But the sex was slightly painful. Painful like I wasn't wet enough.....I feel really weird talking about this..but any insight? Your help is greatly appreciated.

    • ANSWER:
It could be a yeast infection but the discharge is usually white-gray. Gonorrhea the discharge can be yellow green.
